Broome disabled and elderly residents are set to benefit from a new multi-purpose taxi (MPT) service, thanks to the recently introduced $15,000 Country MPT State Government grant scheme.
Minister Assisting the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure Ljiljanna Ravlich said the Broome MPT was the first country taxi to be modified under the new grant scheme, announced in January this year.
“MPT drivers provide a customised and essential service for people with disabilities or other mobility problems,” Ms Ravlich said.
“With both an ageing population and the continuing integration of people with disabilities into the mainstream community and workforce, the demand for MPTs is increasing.
“In addition, Broome is a very popular tourist destination and the new MPT will operate as a much-needed transport alternative to accommodate the large volume of visitors to the town.
