Minister officially opens new Osborne Park Vehicle Examination Centre

Media statement

Release date: 22/10/2009

Transport Minister Simon O’Brien today officially opened the Department of Transport’s new $1.7million Osborne Park Vehicle Examination Centre.

Mr O’Brien said the new state-of-the-art facility would dramatically change the way in which vehicle examinations were performed.

“The pits have been replaced with the latest in vehicle hoist technology; whilst scheduled appointments and a comfortable waiting room replace arbitrary queuing and standing around for hours,” he said.

“The Osborne Park centre is capable of handling more than 30,000 vehicles annually, replacing the old East Perth facility that had a maximum through put capacity of only 13,000 per annum.

“The facility is specifically dedicated to the inspection of cars, utilities, vans and other light passenger and commercial vehicles.”

The Minister said that with safety and security being a primary focus, the use of hoists and a new customer service process enabled the integrity of every examination to be maintained.

“Interaction between customers and examiners is minimal, making the work environment safe and secure for everyone involved,” he said.

“The new facility and the Department of Transport’s renewed approach to customer service and satisfaction is a prime example of how the State Government is transforming the way it does business.”
