There are two major airports in the Perth Metropolitan Area: Perth International Airport (5km east of Perth) and Jandakot Airport (17km south of Perth).

Perth's metropolitan airports
There are two major airports in the Perth Metropolitan Area: Perth International Airport (5km east of Perth) and Jandakot Airport (17km south of Perth). Perth International Airport and Jandakot Airport are on land leased from the Commonwealth Government to Westralia Airports Corporation (WAC) and Jandakot Airport Holdings (JAH) respectively.The operations and planning for Perth and Jandakot airports are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP. Recognising the strategic importance of the airports, Transport liaises with WAC and JAH, on a range of issues including providing comment to the Airports’ Master Plans and Major Development Plans.
The Department of Transport's aim is to influence planning and development decisions relating to both airports that will achieve the best aviation industry and environmental outcomes for the community.
In addition, RAAF Pearce is located approximately 45km north of Perth and is managed through the Department of Defence.
Perth international airport
In 1997, Westralia Airports Corporation leased Perth International Airport from the Commonwealth Government for a period of 99 years. This is a key piece of transport infrastructure is vital to the development of the State's economy and is located only 5km from the city centre of Perth.Perth Airport is one of four ‘gateway’ airports to Australia – the others being Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. According to Airservices Australia, in 2009, there were 108,588 aircraft movements at Perth Airport.
Through various committees convened by Perth Airport, Transport is able to provide comment on a range of issues.

Jandakot airport
In 1998, Jandakot Airport Holdings Pty Ltd (JAH) leased Jandakot Airport from the Commonwealth Government for a period of up to 99 years. Situated about 17 kilometres south of Perth's CBD, Jandakot Airport is Western Australia's major General Aviation (GA) airport and one of the busiest GA airports in the southern hemisphere.Jandakot Airport is the base for many essential service organisations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Police Air Support Unit, Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) and helicopter rescue services. In addition, the airport has excellent pilot training facilities with many well established flying schools training pilots for local and international airlines and other careers in aviation.
According to Airservices Australia, in 2009 there were 332,318 aircraft movements at Jandakot Airport.
Transport has representation on the Jandakot Airport Consultative Committee and through this provides input to a range of issues.
