Obtaining maps and guides
Bikewest manages the production of 'free to user' information brochures, facts sheets, ride booklets and several maps. It also produces the 'user pays' Perth Bike Maps, of which there are five.
Individual consumers
Individual consumers may acquire our publications from those bicycle retailers, local government libraries, the Department's Licensing Centres, newsagents, tertiary bookshops and other organisations that stock them. The Perth Bike Maps are charged to these outlets so they are a 'user pays' item. Bikewest does not control either the range of publications carried, or price charged, by the outlets.
If you are unable to obtain a 'free to user' Cycling Publication you may request it direct from Bikewest. However, Perth Bike Maps must be purchased from a retail outlet because Bikewest is not authorised to trade in this manner.
Approved retail outlets and public access points
Bulk ordering of all publications is made through either the Bikewest Branch or through its contract warehouse and distribution system. Bikewest has limited storage capacity so bulk orders of more than 100 brochures/maps will be forwarded to the warehouse.
Bulk orders may be placed through this website by filling in a Bikewest Brochure Order Form (pdf), which can be filled in, printed and faxed to us. You may contact us to request blank order forms.
Delays of two working weeks can be expected when the chargeable Perth Bike Maps are included in an order because an invoice must accompany them. These are raised by the Department's Accounting Services and forwarded to Bikewest as a prerequisite to order, assembly and dispatch.
Other outlets
A number of commercial enterprises, including relocation businesses, hostels, motels and caravan parks are requesting the 'free to user' cycling publications for their customers. In some cases Bikewest must impose a replacement cost charge. Please contact us to discuss such requests.
Spatial data - now available for download
The Department of Transport has now made it easier to access information on the Perth Bicycle Network by providing spatial data for download. This can be a helpful tool in planning and mapping exercises. If you have any questions regarding the spatial data please contact us. The following data sets are available:
Shared paths
These are general paths for use by pedestrians and cyclists, but also people in wheelchairs, rollerblades and on skateboards. These paths are not specific but generic to all paths that cyclists can ride on.
- Download Shared Paths data set (ZIP file 779kb) - by downloading the data you are agreeing to the terms of the Conditions of Supply (pdf 27kb).
Principal Shared Paths (PSP)
These are a specific type of shared path, used primarily for commuting. These paths are located in areas such as on freeway and railway reserves. These paths are higher standard and have much higher numbers of cyclists but fewer pedestrians.
- Download Principle Shared Paths data set (ZIP file 127kb) - by downloading the data you are agreeing to the terms of the Conditions of Supply (pdf 27kb).
Perth Bicycle Network (PBN) Routes
These are different to the above infrastructure types because the PBN Routes are specific cycling routes with a designated route number (eg NW5, SE20 etc). These routes encompass various roads and shared path infrastructure and take the cyclist through and towards purpose oriented destinations (eg. schools, shopping centres, recreation centres etc).
