Ride along the Sunset Coast:
Ride 1 - Burns Beach to Mullaloo

Commence your ride or walk at the Jack Kikeros Community Hall that overlooks the Burns Beach car park, situated on the western end of Ocean Parade. Facilities nearby include public toilets and showers, public telephone, caravan park and a general store.

Travel south from the boardwalk on an excellent red-paved shared path that hugs the coast and includes numerous ocean views. After about one kilometre, the path is intersected by another red-paved path that heads up from the beach and east toward a nearby car park and housing estate. A shaded cabana and small grassed area can be found near this junction.

The main shared path continues south along the dunes and rugged limestone cliffs. Wire fencing has been erected either side of the path to prevent users from disturbing the fragile environment. However, several spots do allow riders and walkers access to the water’s edge.

Much of this coastline is rocky but there are a number of small, secluded sandy beaches nestled between the outcrops. This section of coast forms part of the conservation area known as Marmion Marine Park.

A number of beach access tracks branch off the main path.

Marmion Marine Park viewing point

Stone markers have been erected next to the shared path at specific viewing points. These explain key aspects of the Marine Park, including the variety of resident sea life and the area’s significance to the local Nyoongar people.

Continue south on the shared path to the Ocean Reef Boat Harbour. Ride along the complex’s access road, past the sea rescue club and launching ramps, until you reach the public toilets at the other end. Another red-paved shared path begins nearby.

From the Ocean Reef Boat Harbour, head south on this shared path. It winds through the sand hills only a few metres from the water’s edge. After about a kilometre, you will come to a junction. Right will take you to a lookout with a covered rest area.

Take the shared path south past the West View Boulevard car park and along the beach. Proceed slowly and carefully as there are several crossing points where the path meets sand tracks that lead from the main road to the beach.

Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club

The shared path comes out at the northern end of Tom Simpson Park on Mullaloo Beach. Facilities include toilets, barbeques, picnic tables, public telephones, bicycle racks, car parking and a kiosk at the Mullaloo Surf Lifesaving Club. You may also like to get a full meal and some refreshments at the tavern across the road.
