Ride 7 - South Perth to City

From the Old Mill car park, head south-east on the shared path running along the river foreshore. This is a popular facility for skaters and pedestrians.

After about 600 metres you will pass the Mends Street jetty area which is the main southern terminal for ferries crossing Perth Water to the city. It is also a shopping precinct with some excellent restaurants that enable diners to take in the panoramic city skyline. This section of shared path can get very busy so cyclists should slow down.

Continue heading eastwards on the path as it winds through the huge grassed area of Sir James Mitchell Park. The view to your left along this stretch is superb and there are several picnic tables with barbeques for public use.

Further along, the path travels past the Coode Street ferry terminal and surf cat hire facility.

McCallum Park is another very large grassed area that has drinking fountains, picnic tables, barbeques, playgrounds and public toilets.

Another path heads straight on through Charles Patterson Park for a few hundred metres, then skirts the popular Burswood Resort with its hotel, restaurants, convention centre and casino. The landscaped area around the resort is called Burswood Park and is home to over 40 varieties of bird life. A heritage trail has been incorporated into the park using statues and plaques to explain the area’s unique history.

Visitors are welcome to explore Burswood Park on their own or they can access the guided tours that are conducted daily from the visitor information centre.

Heirisson Island is a nature reserve and home to a colony of very urbanised kangaroos.

Conclude your Armadale to Perth ride at the Causeway car park next to Riverside Drive where there are public toilets and it is free to park on weekends. From here it is a short stroll into the city centre.
