Peel region recreational boating facilities study

Options to meet the growing demand for recreational boating facilities in the Peel region have been outlined by DoT in the Peel Regional Recreational Boating Facilities Study.

Mandurah and the surrounding region is an exceptionally high growth area for recreational vessels and by 2031 it is estimated there will be almost 18,500 recreational vessels in the Peel region, up from 8,700 in 2009. Importantly 85 per cent of these craft will be trailer based and dependant on boat launching facilities.

The study found that existing facilities would meet demand over the next five years and identified improvements to increase performance and capacity to meet longer term needs of the boating community in the region.

The recommendations include potential sites for new infrastructure to further increase capacity and meet the needs of the boating population in the area.

The study is a comprehensive document that would serve as a blueprint for the provision of future recreational boating facilities in the Peel region.

The majority of the initiatives outlined in the recommendations are eligible for funding under DoT's Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS) and facility managers will be urged to apply for grants to expand and improve facilities.

Perth recreational boating facilities study

The draft Perth Recreational Boating Facilities Study was released in 2008 by former Planning and Infrastructure Minister, Alannah MacTiernan for public comment.

The Study estimates that by 2025 there will be more than 40 boats per 1000 people in Perth when the number of recreational craft will exceed 80,000.

DoT reviewed the comments received on the draft study and prepared the final document, incorporating the draft and the 42 submissions.

The study provides options and time frames for the establishment of recreational boating facilities in the metropolitan area.
