Fremantle FBH Jetty 2 redevelopment (project)

The Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour (FFBH) Jetty 2 Redevelopment project replaced the existing fixed Jetty 2 structure with a modern floating pontoon system.

  Current status

The Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour (FFBH) Jetty 2 Redevelopment project replaced the existing fixed Jetty 2 structure with a modern floating pontoon system.

The Project is currently in its defect liability period until the 14th of June 2017.

This is the latest in a series of asset upgrade/replacement projects carried out at the FFBH and Hillarys Boat Harbour.

  Project overview

The original Jetty 2 was a concrete overlaid timber piled jetty with steel headstocks. A condition assessment identified critical elements of the jetty which were in need of replacement.

The Jetty 2 Redevelopment works were completed by Engineered Water Systems (EWS), reaching Practical Completion on the 14th of June 2016. The new Jetty 2 comprises of:

  • 15 x 20 metre pens.
  • 21 x 18 metre pens.
  • 29 x 15 metre pens.
  • 1 x multi use pen.

The new pontoon system is a Poralu floating pontoon system which has been built to similar specifications and standards as the existing Jetty 2 extension (constructed in 2012).

Access to the existing boat pens on the Jetty 2 extension by pen holders had to be maintained during the redevelopment works so temporary pontoons were built alongside the old jetty to ensure access was available at all times.

Having reached the end of their service life, the existing Pax Jetty, Mooring Fence and Sardine Wharf, in the boat harbour precinct, were also demolished as part of the contract works.

The Jetty 2 Redevelopment resulted in an improved level of service for boat harbour users.
