28/02/2011New mobile phone laws for Western Australia

From 1 March 2011, laws on using mobile phones while driving will change.

Under the new laws, a driver may only use a mobile phone to make or receive phone calls while driving, if the phone:

  • is secured in a mounting affixed to the vehicle; or
  • can be operated without touching it (for example by using a Bluetooth hands free car kit or voice activation).

24/01/2011Queensland flood disaster recovery: temporary FIRS arrangements
The Department of Transport has been notified of an arrangement by Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads to allow Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS) registered vehicles to undertake delivery activities to assist in disaster relief efforts. This arrangement will expire on Monday 31 January 2011 and will be reviewed after this time.
