Annual taxi vehicle examinations - call 1300 782 713
Metropolitan and country Taxis and small charter vehicles must be inspected before being licensed and annually before the licence expires.A fee is charged to offset the costs of inspecting vehicles for the purposes of licensing. The fee varies based on the type of vehicle, its size and number of axles.
Transport urges taxi operators to book their annual vehicle inspections in advance.
Taxi inspections may be booked at the following vehicle examination centres:
- Kelmscott;
- Midland;
- Osborne Park; and
- Warwick.
To make a booking please call 1300 782 713 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
It is recommended that you book ahead to avoid excessive waiting times. Booking your vehicle examination in advance also helps Transport to manage the demand for inspections and provide a better service to its customers.
The Department will mail out taxi vehicle licence renewals 5 to 6 weeks before the licence expiry date. We suggest you make your vehicle examination booking at least 2 weeks before your vehicle licence is due for renewal.
It's also a good idea to have your taxi serviced or checked over by your mechanic before the inspection. This will increase the likelihood that your vehicle will pass inspection when first presented.
Important notes:
If licensing a taxi in your name for the first time, please ensure that authorisation from the Taxi Unit is held at the Driver and Vehicle Services Centre or regional Agency previously nominated by the client with the Taxi plates.
You may also have to present an ‘Ownership Certificate’ if the plates have been purchased from another person; and a ‘Nomination of Vehicle to Display Taxi Plates’ completed by the vehicle and taxi plate owner if the taxi plates are to be leased to another person.
The Taxi Unit of the Department of Transport only issues a letter of approval or ‘Ownership Certificate’ to taxi operators when: transferring a taxi plate to a new operator or issuing a new taxi car plate or licence.
Taxi Camera Surveillance Unit (TCSU) standard 2011
The Department's objective for the new TCSU standard is for every taxi to be installed with a TCSU that reliably provides evidence that can be used to prosecute offences that occurred inside or just outside a taxi vehicle.Find out more about the TCSU standard.
