A Safari Tour and Charter licence is issued for vehicles used for tour and/or charter purposes, where some of the route is over poorly made roads and/or remote locations.
Vehicles must have a Royal Flying Doctor's Service compatible, two-way radio or satellite phone installed
Vehicles must be road worthy and also capable of transporting passengers on tours and charters across rough terrain and unsealed roads
Individual fares should not be charged for charter arrangements.
Vehicles shall not operate from taxi ranks or be used to ply for hire or tout on roads or other public places and
Vehicles licensed to operate off road must be equipped with additional equipment to ensure safety. This includes
spare tyres
puncture kits
spare fan belt
jack and block or equivalent, eg. hi-lift jack or air jack
snatch strap
‘D’ shackles and
shovel.
On application, you should take your vehicle to an Authorised Inspection Station for inspection. You must also bring the additional safety equipment and two-way communications system. You can find your nearest Authorised Inspection Station in the Licensing services section of this website.
