Carpooling |
 |
Carpooling means two or more people travelling together by car. By carpooling people can save on travel costs, enjoy a chat on the way to and from work and reduce their emissions.
|
Individuals who want to carpool regularly should work out their ground rules. These can include:
- Where to meet and at what time, and what days to carpool
- How to share costs and driving
- What to do if someone is late or does not show
- What music or radio station to listen to, if any
- Whether deviations for errands are okay or not
Read the Carpooling to Work guide. Information is available on carpool parking Perth city. |

Workplaces can promote carpooling by their staff:
- Set up a register so staff interested in carpooling can link up, eg a simple intranet bulletin board or a noticeboard in the staff room
- Provide parking bays for car poolers
- Establish a guaranteed ride home policy - where someone gets a public transport or taxi fare if their carpool driver has to go home early or stay late unexpectedly
There are a number of programs to help match up people who want to carpool, some free and some at a fee. Here is a selection of organisations you can use:
Note: The Department of Trnasport does not endorse any particular program. We recommend that you should check privacy and security safeguards before signing up to any program.
