Rewards and Recognition

Incentives for children participating on the Walking School Buses are provided at the beginning of Terms 2, 3 and 4.

The rewards are provided to encourage student participation and provide incentives for continued patronage.  To raise the profile of the Walking School Bus, the rewards are usually handed out at school assembly.  As other parents are often in attendance, it may also be an opportunity to recruit more parent volunteers.

Following the training session for volunteers, coffee vouchers will be provided to those attending.  These vouchers will provide the opportunity for the parents to meet informally to discuss mapping and sharing the time to walk the children to school.

Walk with your local MP or Mayor

To reward and promote the many schools that have a Walking School Bus running to their school, a sign can be displayed outside the school.

During September and October, Mayors and councillors from 6 local councils will be ‘passengers’ on their local Walking School Bus to launch the sign (refer images).

The Walking School Bus signage program is just one of the many TravelSmart initiatives to encourage and sustain voluntary travel behaviour change.
