Walking Displays

46 walking displays were also set up during walk week within various organisations including libraries, workplaces, shopping centres, health care facilities and educational facilities.

These displays were great opportunities for the general community to get hold of the new and improved Walking Guide Book, walking brochures and free merchandise such lanyards and key rings while promoting the benefits of walking.

Schools Walk There Today - Wednesday 5 November 2008

More than 170 schools and approximately 35,000 students and their families took part in Schools Walk There Today on Wednesday

Schools Walk There Today was launched at Aranmore Catholic Primary School with a fantastic turnout.  More than 200 kids met at Brittainia Reserve and began the school day by catching 'specially chartered' walking school buses to school.  Once arriving at Schools they enjoy healthy snacks and giveaways, followed by a School Assembly.

The School was visited by Hearty, the Heart Foundation’s mascot, who walked with the students to school and joined in the following proceedings.

Walk Week 2008 in the Workplace

There was fantastic support from within the workplace community with a total of 84 workplace events registered across the state with over 2500 participants.  While many workplaces encouraged their staff to walk and catch public transport to work, other events registered included pedometer challenges, lunchtime walks, workplace walking groups, and walking information sessions.

Many events included a healthy breakfast or morning tea and one workplace even hosted a continuous treadmill challenge.

The City of Belmont’s Travel Smart Officer organised two lunchtime walks around Tomato lake with a great turnout.
