On-demand passenger transport levy policies

The State Government’s Perth metropolitan taxi plate buyback scheme is funded by the temporary On-demand Passenger Transport Levy (Levy).

  Levy exemption

The State Government’s Perth metropolitan taxi plate buyback scheme is funded by the temporary On-demand Passenger Transport Levy (Levy). Pursuant to Section 244(2) of the Transport (Road Passenger Services) Act 2018 - Regulations may provide that passenger service transactions of a specified kind or by a specified kind of booking service provider are not leviable passenger service transactions.

On-demand Booking Service providers that solely provide on-demand passenger transport services for special events in limousines or other luxury vehicles may apply for an exemption from the Levy.

  Electric vehicles

The State Government’s Perth metropolitan taxi plate buyback scheme is funded by the temporary On-demand Passenger Transport Levy (Levy).

The Levy does not apply to journeys undertaken in electric vehicles that are propelled wholly by electricity.
