Cycle Instead Bikeweek is an annual celebration of cycling coordinated by the Department of Transport's Bikewest. Bikeweek has continued to grow in size and scope each year, thanks to the efforts made by local governments, community groups, workplaces, cycling organisations and schools across the State. Bikeweek 2011 was officially opened on Sunday, 20 March with the ever popular HBF Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma, which attracted more than 8,700 people. The celebration also included a wide range of community rides and breakfasts, cycling skills workshops, slow bike rides, treasure hunts, bicycle swap meets and film screenings. Bikeweek 'Win-a-bike competition' resultsSix lucky people have won bike packages. Thousands of people entered the "Win-a-bike" draw recently in the hope of winning one of six prize packages. Run by Bikewest in conjunction with The West Australian newspaper, each package was valued at $1000 and included a bicycle of choice, accessories and a Velo-City: Perth book. The lucky winners were:

Bikeweek promotionEvery participant at a Bikeweek event is eligible to win a bicycle of their choice valued at $600 retail or a Velo-City: Perth book. These will be drawn on 2 May 2011 and published on this page. The various Bikeweek 2011 events offered participants of all ages the opportunity to experience the fun of riding a bike, be it around their neighbourhood, or exploring other parts of our City and State. There were Bikeweek events just right for everyone, from those new to cycling, to those back on their bikes after a break, or the more experienced riders. This year's Bikeweek successfully attracted over 30,000 adults and children to more than 60 community and 160 school-based events held throughout Western Australia.
