Bicycle traffic counts

Main Roads WA currently collects bicycle usage information using permanent counters at ten sites. Nine of the sites cover the main path routes to the Perth CBD and the remaining site is located on the path next to the Perth to Bunbury Highway. The counters have been brought online progressively from July 2008.

The counters collect bicycle count data 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The locations of the counters are listed below:

  • Kwinana Freeway PSP - path on the western side of Narrows Bridge
  • Kwinana Freeway PSP - path on the eastern side of Narrows Bridge
  • Mitchell Freeway PSP - south of Vincent Street
  • Fremantle Railway Line PSP - near Loftus Street
  • Midland Railway Line PSP - south of the Mt Lawley Subway
  • Armadale Railway Line PSP - south of the Windan Bridge
  • Causeway - on the Perth Foreshore path just north-west of the Causeway Bridge
  • Mounts Bay Road RSP - on the path beside the Swan River
  • Banks Reserve RSP - on the Tony di Scerni Pathway in Mount Lawley
  • Perth to Bunbury Highway – on the path, south of Paganoni Road

The intention is to monitor the number of riders using these paths to obtain long term trend information.

Information is downloaded from the counters approximately once every two months. The available information will be updated on this website as it becomes available to Bikewest.
