Digital nautical charts
The Department has released two new digital chart products designed to give boat owners easy access to the most thorough and up to date information in a range of digital formats:
Western Australian digital nautical chart images (for use on personal computers)

This CD, for use on personal computers, contains raster (ECW and TIFF) and PDF (Adobe Acrobat) formats of the Department's Nautical Charts, covering Perth local waters from Lancelin to Dawesville.
The charts on the CD are not geo-referenced, however the images contain Latitude and Longitude values relating to the Geocentric Datum of Australia (GDA94). Chart Scales range from 1:25,000 to 1:50,000 with individual insets supplied at larger scales. File sizes range from 1 to 15 Megabytes.
The chart images supplied on this CD are not intended for navigational use. Official paper charts are available from the Department and it's approved chart agents.
These images are suitable for use as background images for computer and GPS Mapping.

Western Australia raster nautical charts (for use with a compatible Electronic Charting System)
The Western Australian Raster Nautical Chart series consists of digital facsimiles of the Department's published paper charts on CD ROM designed for use with a compatible Electronic Charting System (ECS). It provides faithful and reliable high quality images designed to aid and improve navigation.
The Western Australian Raster Nautical Chart images have been designed and created to closely replicate the paper chart. This means that all raster nautical charts have the same familiar image and use the same internationally recognised symbols as the paper chart series, produced to the Department's exceptional standards of quality and accuracy.
You can perform all the traditional navigation functions such as bearing and distance calculation, waypoint insertion and route planning. Most Electronic Chart Systems (ECS) will allow a link to GPS to show real time vessel position.
The Western Australian Raster Nautical Chart series is compatible with many Electronic Charting Systems (ECS) including:
- Endeavour®
- C-Plot
- MaxSea
- OceanVision
- Seafarer ® Viewer
- Transas ® Navi-Sailor
Pricing and order forms are available from HSA Systems (external link).
