The Department of Transport leads the development of safe, integrated and efficient transport systems for the people of Western Australia.

We put our customers at the centre of everything we do, coordinating the State’s transport operations, strategic planning and policy development, and delivering safe and sustainable transport services and projects across all modes of transport – roads, railways, air travel, paths and waterways.

As part of the Transport Portfolio, we proudly work together with our partners:

We also collaborate with other government agencies, private organisations, industry partners and the community to deliver safe and sustainable transport solutions that make Western Australia a great place to live, work and visit.

Some of the services we deliver to the community include:

  • boating facility management
  • marine safety regulation and education
  • coastal infrastructure planning and project delivery
  • on-demand transport regulation and reform
  • transport and urban planning and coordination
  • planning and improving bike riding and pedestrian infrastructure
  • aviation regulation and reform
  • freight and ports regulation and reform
  • marine oil pollution and transport incident response.

With more than 1,600 employees, we have the expertise to connect people and places to keep Western Australia moving toward a safer, healthier, and sustainable future.
