Schools excelling in the Your Move program, as well as outstanding individual Your Move Champions and student teams were acknowledged for delivering initiatives to encourage more active journeys to and from school.
Local governments were also commended for achieving excellence in active transport amenity, as well as innovative and unique design solutions that support a low stress, high comfort active travel network for people of all ages and abilities.
Representing the Minister for Transport, Ms Meredith Hammat MLA presented winners with their awards. Attendees also heard a keynote address from Australian paralympic athlete Rhiannon Clarke, who spoke about how physical activity from an early age helped her to pursue her dreams and the benefits that walking and riding bring to her life.
The Your Move Awards are hosted biennially as part of the Your Move program, a free Department of Transport initiative that helps schools, the broader community and organisations to participate in more active, environmentally friendly and cost-effective ways to get around.
There are currently over 280 schools, 63 organisations and 36 local governments from metropolitan and regional areas across Western Australia registered to Your Move.
Groups and individuals can register for the program, where they are proactively engaged and supported to achieve active transport goals and work towards healthier travel habits. For more information, visit the Your Move webpage.
