Erin lands her learners

In March 2025, Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure Remote Service Officers Fiona and Marnie travelled 1,170km from Kalgoorlie to Wingellina to help the community with licensing.

Located in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, the Nintirriwa YurritjingalKitjalu Mutuka (NYM) Project is funded through the Driving Access and Equity Program.

Fiona and Marnie had the pleasure of conducting a theory test for community member Erin to get her learner’s permit. Erin previously held her learner’s permit, but it had lapsed before she could sit her practical driving assessment. People living on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands can often struggle to progress through the licensing process with intermittent access to services and no driving instructors.

Erin was very grateful for the experience.

“I cannot believe it. This is a great day. I will now have more independence in being able to support my family. Thank you,” Erin said.

Once she got her learner’s permit, Erin was able to take the next step and complete her first driving lesson with the NYM Project.
