In a first for Western Australia, the Driving Access and Equity Program (DAEP) been awarded an internationally recognised Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.

The prestigious annual awards, founded in 1987 by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, highlight exceptional achievements and innovations in road safety around the world.

DAEP earned recognition for its impactful efforts in education, training, and providing access to services that foster safer road users.

Since launching in 2022, DAEP has helped thousands of people living in regional and remote areas across WA to secure a driver’s licence.

The program helps remove common barriers including difficulty accessing safe vehicles, driving supervisors and instructors. It makes getting a licence attainable, significantly improving educational and employment opportunities, and supporting personal and family responsibilities.

The DAEP is currently collaborating with 29 organisations to implement 32 projects in over 100 locations across WA.
