National Ride2School Day encourages students to get physically active on their journey to school.
On Friday 20 March 2026, more than 350,000 students and families across Australia will take part in the annual celebration, leaving the car at home and giving walking, wheeling or riding a go.
Active travel to school can have many benefits for the mental and physical wellbeing of children, as well as for the environment, economy and broader transport network.
DTMI’s Your Move program is a flagship initiative that helps Western Australian school communities boost walking and bike and scooter riding, and discover healthier, more active ways to get around.
The program continues to improve active travel trips, with walking and riding rates at more than 40 per cent among highly engaged schools, compared to the state average of around 20 per cent.
“National Ride2School Day is a fantastic opportunity to build healthy travel habits that can carry on for many years,” DTMI Manager Behaviour Change Helen Ginbey said.
“This annual celebration is a favourite event for our Your Move schools, and it’s wonderful to see students, families and staff all taking part.
“Your Move provides schools ideas and support for their active travel journeys.
“If your school isn’t involved yet, now is a great time to find out more and consider joining.”
Your Move is a free program open to all schools in Western Australia. As part of the program, schools can gain access to active travel resources, a rewards shop and annual grants. Sign up to Your Move today!
