Third time is the charm

At 22, Hayley had been trying to get her driver’s licence for some time. Without family support, she struggled to get time behind the wheel to complete the required logbook hours.

That’s when Blackwood Youth Action (BYA), through its Driving Positive Change in the Warren Blackwood program, and funded by the Driving Access and Equity Program, stepped in to help.

With the ongoing guidance of her case manager, Hayley steadily built her skills and confidence to take her practical driving assessment (PDA). Although after two unsuccessful attempts, each affected by nerves and anxiety, Hayley’s hard-earned confidence was shaken.

Thankfully, with her case manager by her side and financial support from the Driving Positive Change in the Warren Blackwood program to cover the cost of another PDA, Hayley gave it one more shot. This time, she passed!

Hayley said that without this support, she wouldn’t be the confident, capable driver she is today.

“I’m not sure where I’d be today without the support of BYA and the connection I’ve made with my case manager,” she shared.

“I used to be such an anxious driver, but she gave me the confidence to keep trying. Having my Ps has given me freedom and options. I can now apply for jobs that weren’t possible before and even consider renting a place a bit further out of town. I just have so many more choices now and I’m really looking forward to seeing more of my family and friends.”

Hayley is now ready to embrace new opportunities and enjoy the independence she worked so hard to achieve.

Hi, I’m T-Bot! How can I help you?
