The number of licensed electric vehicles (EVs) in Western Australia has surged by almost 66 per cent over the past year, increasing from 38,110 licensed light EVs in June 2025 to 63,241 vehicles in June 2026.
The milestone highlights the strong growth in EV uptake across the State and the increasingly important role electric vehicles are playing in WA's transport future.
The latest DTMI data shows EVs now account for 2.8 per cent of all licensed light vehicles in WA, with 63,241 electric vehicles among the State's 2.23 million licensed light vehicles as at 30 June 2026.
Growth in EV uptake accelerated during the June 2026 quarter, with the number of licensed EVs increasing by 19.9 per cent, compared with 12.2 per cent in the previous quarter.
A total of 10,727 EVs were newly licensed during the quarter, representing 24 per cent of all new light vehicle licences issued in WA.
The report also found EV adoption continues to expand beyond Perth, with a number of regional areas all recording quarterly growth above 20 per cent.
