Austroads has added 14 jurisdictions to the Recognised Overseas Licences Scheme that were previously part of the former Experienced Driver Recognition (EDR) arrangements.

The scheme provides Australian jurisdictions with a nationally consistent process for assessing whether overseas driver’s licences can be recognised in Australia.

The 14 additional overseas jurisdictions are:

  • Bulgaria
  • Cyprus
  • The Czech Republic
  • Estonia
  • Hungary
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan

In WA, these arrangements will take effect on 31 October 2026.

Applications made before 31 October 2026 to transfer a driver’s licence from one of the 14 additional overseas jurisdictions to a WA licence will be assessed as a driver from a non-recognised jurisdiction, by passing a theory test and practical driving assessment.

From 31 October 2026, holders of car and motorcycle licences from the 14 overseas jurisdictions can transfer to the corresponding WA driver’s licence class without completing these tests, as long as they meet all other licensing requirements.

Find out what the requirements are for you to obtain a WA driver’s licence by using our 'Where is your licence from?' tool.
