Local bike planning grants

DTMI offers funding to support local bike planning (LBP) across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

Introduced in 2025-26, LBP grants provide local governments and regional councils with lump sum funding to develop new bike plans or evolve existing plans. Two tiers of support packages are available:

  • Basic – up to $15,000
  • Enhanced – up to $25,000.

Funding is available for plans focusing on all active transport, micromobility or bike riding only. Walking only plans are not eligible.

These grants aim to support local governments in the delivery of best practice active transport infrastructure and planning projects that:

  • enable more people to walk, wheel and ride as part of their everyday journeys and experiences
  • contribute to continuous and connected active transport networks across WA
  • support multimodal journeys by integrating active and public transport (Perth Bike Network focus)
  • support safe active travel options for journeys to and from town centres, schools, places of recreation and/or tourism opportunities (Regional Bike Network focus).

Applications can be submitted year-round via Transport WA Grants. Assessments typically take place twice a year.

Before applying, please refer to the Grant Opportunity Guidelines for specific intake information, including the Addendum to the WABN Program Procedures, which supports the LBP intake.

For more information, read the FAQs and LBP Grants - Information for Applicants documents below.
