STEP 6 Book and pass your Practical Driving Assessment (PDA)

The Practical Driving Assessment (PDA) is the driving test that satisfies us that you can drive safely and are ready to drive without supervision on your provisional licence.

To take your PDA you must:

  • be at least 17 years old
  • have had your learner's permit for at least 6 months
  • have recorded at least 50 hours of supervised driving in your DTMI issued learner log book or Learn&Log, including 5 hours of night time driving (if under 25 years old)
  • passed the hazard perception test
  • feel confident that you can drive safely without a supervising driver.

Book your PDA

You can book your PDA:

On the day

To be eligible to take your PDA you must:

  • arrive at least 15 minutes before your booked appointment
  • bring your completed DTMI issued learner log book, ensuring it has been signed by you and your supervising driver. Otherwise, if using only Learn&Log to record all 50 hours of supervised driving, submit your electronic declaration of completion from within Learn&Log.
  • bring your learner’s permit
  • provide a licensed and roadworthy vehicle in the correct class.

If you pass your PDA

You will be issued with a provisional licence.

If you do not pass

You will need to book another and pay a resit fee for each PDA.
