Storage Yard Authorisation Details

All regulated towing businesses are required to have a storage yard or yards that meet the DTMI standards set out in the Storage Yard Authorisation Details form.

Applicants must ensure the Storage Yard Authorisation Details form is completed accurately and in full. Incomplete information may result in delays to the authorisation assessment process.

A separate Storage Yard Authorisation Details form must be used for each storage yard. Multiple forms can be uploaded during the application process.

During the assessment process, after an application has been submitted, the Towing Governance and Regulation (TG&R) team will request additional information, including supporting documents and photographic evidence relating to the storage yard. To avoid delays, applicants are strongly encouraged to prepare all required supporting evidence in advance, so it is readily available when requested.

Statement of Authority

A Statement of Authority is a formal declaration authorising nominated responsible officers to represent a regulated towing business. For more information on responsible officers please see the 'Responsible Officers' section of Towing business authorisation.

Tow Truck Authorisation Details

Authorised towing businesses must ensure that all tow trucks used in their operations are correctly licensed as tow trucks and recorded under their business authorisation. During the application process, towing businesses must submit a complete list of all tow trucks intended to be used for regulated (crash) towing. This must be completed using the Tow Truck Authorisation Details form and uploaded during the application process.

This requirement applies to:

  • Tow trucks owned or leased by the business
  • Tow trucks operated by subcontractors
  • Tow trucks owned by third parties when used on behalf of the business for regulated (crash) towing

Once authorised, towing businesses are required to notify the TG&R team when:

  • A tow truck is no longer used for regulated towing.
  • A new tow truck is introduced that is not specified under their authorisation

Towing Business Authorisation Checklist

The towing business authorisation checklist is design to help applicants prepare a complete authorisation application. The checklist outlines the required documentation, information, and storage yard standards needed for approval. The checklist is for applicant use only and does not need to be uploaded as part of the application or submitted to the TG&R team at any stage.
