Translating and interpreting

If you require an interpreter, please phone 13 11 56 and request an interpreter for your language. We also provide on-site interpreters for face-to-face interviews.

Please note:

• NAATI, WAITI, and AUSIT maintain an online directory of practitioners and do not provide the actual translation service.
• If your overseas driver’s licence document is not in English, you need an official translation of your overseas driver's licence document, along with your original overseas driver's licence when transferring your overseas licence.
• DVS only accepts driver licence translations provided by the Department of Social Services 'Free Translating Service' where the translation has been done by a NAATI accredited translator.
• A translator can help you understand what is needed before taking a Practical Driving Assessment (PDA) and to help after your test is finished. Call 13 11 56 before your PDA date to arrange assistance.

Changes for permanent visa holders:

If you hold a permanent visa, you can continue to drive on your overseas licence until you have resided in WA for three months.
