Administered by the Department of Transport, the grants program aims to enhance the recreational boating experience by providing financial support for the planning, construction, and upgrading of public boating infrastructure.

Implemented in 1998, to date the RBFS has seen approximately $54 million awarded to 478 projects over 29 grant rounds.

Recreational boating owners should discuss their ideas for new and improved facilities with local managers. Eligible authorities, including local governments, Government agencies and statutory authorities with responsibility for managing public facilities used for boating have until September 5th to apply for a share of the $2.4 million in round 30.

Projects must benefit registered vessels and may include boat launching ramps, jetties, boat trailer parking, boating signage and toilets.

Up to 75 per cent of the cost of a project can be funded by the RBFS, with the maximum grant set at $750,000.
