Anastasia Lewis is a determined Year 12 student navigating one of the most important years of her life. When her dad and stepmum decided to relocate from Port Hedland to Narrogin, Anastasia faced a tough decision on where to live.
With a strong commitment to her school-based traineeship and her future in the local community, she chose to stay in Port Hedland and continue her studies.
With nowhere stable to live, Anastasia found support through the Youth Involvement Council’s (YIC) Youth Accommodation Program, which provided a safe and supportive environment where she could focus on her goals.
Despite these challenges, Anastasia stayed focused and motivated to keep her education and personal development on track. One of Anastasia’s goals was to gain her driver’s licence. Although she had started driving lessons, she lacked the confidence and support needed to prepare for her practical driving assessment.
That’s when she was able to join YIC’s Drive 2 Thrive program, funded by the Driving Access and Equity Program.
The team was more than happy to assist. Anastasia proved to be a capable driver, she just needed someone to believe in her. With encouragement and additional driving practice through Drive 2 Thrive, Anastasia completed her hazard perception test and confidently went on to pass her practical driving assessment.
Anastasia’s story is one of perseverance, self-belief, and the power of community support. She continues to work hard toward completing her education and building a bright future, a testament to what young people can achieve when they are empowered and supported.
