New Batavia boat pens showcase local manufacturing

A Geraldton Indigenous owned company supplied a key component in a $3.3 million floating jetty and pen project at the DTMI operated Batavia Coast Marina.

Designed and built by SMC Marine Western Australia, the pens will help meet demand from recreational boat owners for vessel accommodation and boost marine based tourism in the region.

Ugle Fabrications showcased local manufacturing expertise with the supply of the mooring rope rings attached to the new jetty piles.

SMC also engaged three Geraldton based subcontractors for electrical, plumbing, and other fabrication work to complete the project.

The work has seen total number of pens at the facility increase from 84 to 118 – with some of the new pens capable of accommodating vessels up to 25 metres long.

One of the first vessels to occupy a new pen was the iconic Batavia Longboat after the Batavia Coast Replica Boat Association accepted the pen reserved for its use.

The longboat has been penned adjacent to the marina boardwalk, putting it on show to the public and adding to the experience of those visiting the nearby museum.
