From the far north of our state to the deep south, DTMI’s Aviation team are collaborating on behalf of the State Government to upgrade aviation infrastructure that keeps regional communities connected and thriving.

In Kununurra, a project to extend the runway at the East Kimberley Regional Airport (EKRA) has reached practical completion, while a construction tender has been released to conduct comprehensive upgrades to the runway, taxiways and aprons at Albany Airport.

These projects will allow both airports to support larger planes carrying more passengers and greater freight transport capacity and are supported with federal, state and local government funding.

Greater aviation access delivered by the upgraded infrastructure will help increase tourism and business opportunities and provide an economic boost to these regions. In the longer term, it will also unlock the potential for future route development, enabling stronger connections between these regions and new markets.

Albany Airport and EKRA provide essential aviation connectivity that underpins each region’s prosperity and liveability, including capped airfare services linking regional residents with Perth through the Regional Airfare Zone Cap (RAZC) scheme.

Importantly, the project design for the Albany Airport also allows for further development to support firefighting aircraft that will enhance the region’s emergency response capabilities.
