Sylvanna had one clear goal: to get her driver’s licence before her baby arrived in April.
Since signing up to Geraldton PCYC’s Drive to the Future program, funded by the Driving Access and Equity Program, her commitment was unwavering.
Sylvanna attended every session and even practiced extra with her grandmother to build confidence behind the wheel.
As her due date approached, things got tight. Sylvanna’s practical driving assessment (PDA) was booked just one day before her baby was due. Although life had other plans, and her baby came sooner than expected.
While most people would have postponed the test, not Sylvanna. Just three days after giving birth, she showed up for her PDA, supported by her family, and passed with flying colours, and without a single mistake.
Reflecting on her journey, Sylvanna praised the positive impact of the help she received and the people who supported her.
“I am able to be more independent for myself and my babies,” she shared.
“The best thing about the program would be that you guys are able to help so many people get their licence and give them the confidence they need with the support you provide.
“Naomi and Dylan are amazing. Kind, supportive, and patient. I would not have got my Ps without them.”
The team from Drive to the Future said it was a privilege to support Sylvanna’s journey.
“Sylvanna should be so proud of what she’s achieved. She stayed focused, showed up, and reached her goal all while preparing for a newborn.”
