WA Bicycle Network Grants Program

About the Western Australian Bicycle Network Grants Program

The WABN Grants Program is administered by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure and matches local government expenditure dollar-for-dollar (up to 50 per cent of the total project cost) for the design and construction of active transport infrastructure.

The program aims to ensure walking and riding infrastructure is safe, accessible, connected and continuous across local government boundaries.

The WABN Grants Program is structured to fund: infrastructure projects (design and/or construction), Local Bike Planning projects, and Active Travel Officers (ATOs).

The metropolitan stream of the WABN Grants Program (infrastructure design and/or construction) underwent a refresh in 2024 to better maximise the State Government’s strong investment in public transport infrastructure to the priorities of the long-term cycle network. It is anticipated that the next intake for metropolitan infrastructure projects will open in late 2025. To keep up to date with the latest information, subscribe to WABN e-News.

Grant intake information - Local bike plans

The WABN Grants Program now offers funding to support local bike planning (LBP) across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

LBP grants provide local governments and regional councils with lump sum funding to develop bike plans. Two tiers of support packages are available: basic and enhanced, and applications can be submitted year-round.

The cutoff date for applications to be assessed in the final assessment period of 2025 is 11:59 pm on Friday 19 September

Any applications submitted after this time will need to wait until April 2026 to be assessed. Please follow the link below to Transport WA Grants to access the EOI form and submit. For support regarding the Transport WA Grants online platform, refer to the Grants and funding page

Please refer to the updated Grant Opportunity Guidelines for specific intake information, including the Addendum to the WABN Program Procedures, which supports the LBP intake.
