Rottnest Island (known as Wadjemup to the local Noongar people, and otherwise colloquially known as Rotto) is an island off the coast of Western Australia, located 18 kilometres west of Fremantle.

  About Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is an island off the coast of Western Australia, located 18 kilometres west of Fremantle. A sandy, low-lying island formed on a base of aeolianite limestone.

Rottnest Island is an A-Class Reserve governed by the Rottnest Island Authority Act, 1987 which establishes the Rottnest Island Authority as a statutory body to control and manage the Island, reporting to the Minister for Tourism.

The Act gives the Authority the power to control and manage the Island.
