Commercial goods vehicle licence (CGVL)

What is a commercial goods vehicle licence (CGVL)?

A commercial goods vehicle licence (CGVL) is required for vehicles used to carry iron ore or any mining product containing iron ore from any mine or stockpile situated within a 100km radius of Wubin, Pindar, Geraldton, Marchagee and South Mine 94 or within an area 100km on either side of:

  • The northern railway line between Wubin and Geraldton including the Pindar to Mullewa section,
  • The Midland railway line between Marchagee and Geraldton, or
  • The railway line between South Mine 94 and Dongara.

Why do I need a CGVL?

DoT, with input from Main Roads WA, issues CGVLs to regulate the transport of iron ore on roads in the Mid West along specified routes.

CGVLs may be issued with specific conditions such as speed limits and hours of operation, to maximise road and community safety.

Product owners are encouraged to move freight by rail rather than by road to reduce community and environmental impacts.

Product owners should determine if a CGVL is needed to move their product and coordinate directly with the vehicle owners/haulers.

Download the document below for more information on CGVLs.
