Check your on-demand transport provider is authorised

It is important to only take on-demand transport trips with authorised providers. Check the authorisation status of your driver or on-demand booking service at any time using the Department of Transport’s (DoT) online look-ups.

On-demand transport is a flexible type of transport that allows passengers or hirers to choose where their trip starts and ends, and the time that they will travel. This includes taxi, charter, rideshare, limousine and party bus services.

An on-demand booking service (ODBS) authorisation is required for any person or company that:

  • takes bookings for on-demand trips; and
  • organises drivers and vehicles to service those trips.

Drivers for on-demand transport services must hold a passenger transport driver (PTD) authorisation.

To ensure the safety of passengers, drivers and the public, DoT requires authorised providers to regularly provide National Police Certificates and undergo medical checks.

You can instantly check that your driver or ODBS is authorised using the look-up searches below.

Note: these search services are provided as a guide to the authorisation status of providers at the time of the check. It is, however, not conclusive proof that a driver or on-demand booking service holds an authorisation. If you’re concerned about the status of an authorisation, you can email On-demand Transport at ondemandtransport@transport.wa.gov.au.

Driver look-up

To look up a driver, open the link below and enter their PTD authorisation number.

  • PTD authorisation numbers are five or six digits long, and should be displayed either:
  • inside the vehicle; or
  • on the trip details screen in your booking app.

Read the section below to learn how to find the driver’s authorisation number.

  • their ODBS provider name; or
  • their business name.

The ODBS authorisation number should be easily visible to you on the inside or outside of the vehicle, or on the ODBS’s app or website. Read the section below to learn how to find the ODBS authorisation details.

How to find the driver’s authorisation number

All authorised passenger transport drivers need to display driver identification information that includes the driver’s:

  • first name;
  • authorisation number; and
  • a photo.

This information must be available to you when you book your trip, or visible inside their vehicle or on the driver. If you can’t locate driver’s authorisation number, you can ask the driver or service provider to provide it to you.

Taxis

If you’re in a taxi, you can usually find driver identity information displayed on:

  • the meter (see below for an example);
  • the dashboard; or
  • the sun visor in front of the front passenger seat.

Charter vehicles

If you’re in a charter vehicle (including rideshare, limousine and party bus services), driver identity information may be:

  • provided when you book your trip;
  • displayed in the vehicle;
  • displayed in the booking app (example below); or
  • worn by the driver (example below).

How to find the ODBS authorisation details

If you’re in a taxi, ODBS details (including name and authorisation number) should be located both inside and outside the vehicle, and on your receipt.

If you’re in a charter vehicle (including rideshare, limousine and party bus services), there should be signage in the left of the rear window or livery on the outside of the vehicle that tells you the on-demand booking service name or logo.

My driver or ODBS is not authorised

If you can’t find your driver or on-demand booking service with these searches, they may not be authorised and you should choose another provider.

Please contact the Department of Transport on 13 11 56, or email ondemandtransport@transport.wa.gov.au to report them.
