How to apply for an emergency and volunteer response vehicle concession 

Owners of volunteer emergency services response vehicles should complete the form and lodge it any Driver and Vehicle Services Centre or regional Agent.

Concessions offered for volunteer emergency response vehicles

Vehicle must Rate Notes Conditions

Be an A or B class vehicle listed as an emergency response vehicle on Voluntary Emergency Services Response Vehicle Concession Application (Form E21).

Be operated only by volunteers and used solely in emergency situations.

Be owned by volunteer emergency services organisations (i.e. volunteer fire brigades or volunteer ambulance centres)

100% exemption from vehicle licence fee and vehicle licence duty.

Reduced rate on Motor Injury Insurance.

Vehicles must be inspected before they can be licensed as an emergency vehicle.

There is no limit to the number of vehicles an organisation can have with this concession.

Vehicles used for emergency situations that are owned by private organisations (e.g. mining companies) or individuals are not eligible for this concession.

Concessions offered for fire brigade vehicles

List of Concessions offered for fire brigade vehicles
Vehicle must Rate Conditions

Be owned and licensed in the name of Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

Used exclusively for the sole purpose of fire-fighting, fire preventing or dealing with other incidents as defined in the Emergency Management Act 2005; and authorised with Emergency Vehicle Status.

100% exemption from vehicle licence fee and vehicle licence duty.

Reduced rate on Motor Injury Insurance.

Vehicles must be inspected before they can be licensed as an emergency vehicle.

Government plates are issued unless written approval has been provided from the CEO of the organisation.

Notes:

An application form is not required.

There is no limit to the number of vehicles that the concession holder may have licensed with this concession at any one time.

Fire-fighting vehicles are not eligible for this concession if they are licensed in the name of:

  • Local Government Organisations; or
  • Volunteer Organisations.

Concessions offered for ambulances

Vehicle must Rate Conditions

Be used exclusively as an ambulance (i.e. body type AMBULC or RRAMB).

100% exemption from vehicle licence fee and vehicle licence duty.

Reduced rate on Motor Injury Insurance.

Vehicles must be inspected before they can be licensed as an emergency vehicle and when returning the vehicle to full rates

Notes:

An application form is not required.

There is no limit to the number of vehicles that the concession holder may have licensed with this concession at any one time.
