Learning to drive

There are currently no restrictions on learning to drive

Practical Driving Assessments (PDAs)

PDAs recommenced in May and online bookings can be made through DoTDirect. We recently opened a temporary centre in Welshpool, dedicated to conducting PDAs to help clear the backlog of assessments.

Licensing, registrations and renewals

You can attend a DoT licensing centre or agent to complete transactions you can't do online. Remember to practise social distancing and follow the two square metre rule.

For many transactions, you don't need to come into a centre. DoTDirect makes managing your licensing business easy. You can complete transactions online, such as paying your rego or licence, changing your address or transferring a vehicle.

About the freeze on vehicle licensing (rego) fees

You still need to pay your vehicle rego to continue driving on the road. Our flexible payment options allow you to pay in three, six or 12-month intervals.

The State Government has announced an economic stimulus package to freeze fee increases on vehicle licence (rego) until at least July 2021. This means as a Western Australian, you wonít have to pay more for your vehicle licence (rego) in 2020-2021 than you do now.

If you donít pay your vehicle rego and your vehicle is unlicensed for more than three months, you will need to have the vehicle inspected for it to be re-licensed.

Registration charges for heavy vehicles will be increasing by 2.5% from 10 July 2020.
